I remember when Ed Wade said that. Ed Wade of all people! One of the worst GMs ever in the history of the game, and he still has a job. And the Phillies have been looking for an ace ever since. Schilling wanted his option picked up or an extention and the Phillies wouldn't do it. They were mad that he got his shoulder operated on that previous December by that 'quack' doctor Morgan, they said. They believed he was finished as a pitcher at age 33. Everyone around the team was mad back then as the Phils were in last place, Wade's trade of Adam Eaton for Andy Ashby became a disaster, and players questioned the motives of the management's desire to win. After all, a new scouting director was hired in 1993 to turn things around. It was now 7 years later, fans weren't showing up, the best everyday player, Rolen, was sqwaking, and the bad manager Francona would eventually be fired by Wade after that season. Schilling was better than all this and knew it. He had to free himself of his bondage. He did and all saw what happened after that. In September 2002, Ed Wade stated, "Curt Schilling is angling for the Hall of fame the way he's going these days." It was the only time I ever remember Wade being correct.

I also don't see CC to the Sox happening. Like you said they didn't want to do it for Johan and I doubt they are going to give up the prospects for CC. I'm sure they'll ask for Masterson and Bowden and probably Lowrie or Lars Anderson. Sox already have plenty of pitching with Beckett, Dice-K, Lester, Wakefield, Colon, Masteron, Buchholz and Schilling potentially coming back.

If anything I'd think the Sox would be after a power bat with the Ortiz injury still up in the air.

Tomase. Did he make a mistake? No he did not make a mistake. Your defense of him makes it sound like Tomase dropped a ball point pen. That was not an accident IT WAS A DELIBERATE ACT !!! He committed a sin far worse than plagiarism. This was downright meanness and contempt on his part. This was using the 'pen' to injure and it seemed deliberate. You think he could have picked a worse time to publish that story? No he could not have. His lame ass explanation is that of an unprincipled weasel. He made little reference to the damage done to the reputation of Mr Kraft, BB, and the team. It seemed as if he felt "oh golly, I didn't mean to do that...me bad.. sorry about that" Like it was an insignificant thing he did. Any trained journalist knows better. This was a deliberate and conscious act of an unprincipled person who placed little if any value upon the consequences of being incorrect.
