Here's a press release from the Rookie League Lowell Spinners for their Annual Lowell Spinners Alumni Dinner with Jed Lowrie as the guest of honor...it's always a good take filled with all kinds of great Red Sox stories. Just listening to Dick Berardino get up to the podium every year and star spinning yarns about all the players he's coached is worth the price of admission. Good stuff. First round pick Casey Kelly, Walt Hriniak and Bob Tewksbury will also be in attendance at the dinner. Here's the release:
The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will celebrate the first playoff appearance in franchise history and honor stars of the past in the Seventh Annual Lowell Spinners Alumni Dinner.
The dinner will take place Monday, January 12 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Lowell, Mass. The dinner was originally scheduled for December 5, but was changed to accommodate our featured alumni.
The lineup of scheduled guests includes one of the top up-and-coming stars on the Boston Red Sox, shortstop and 2005 Lowell Spinner Jed Lowrie.
Lowrie was named this year’s winner of the Dick Berardino Lowell Spinners Alumni Award, which is presented to a Lowell Spinners Alumni who has displayed tremendous coachability, dedication, a passionate work ethic, determination, and the heart to make it to the Major League Level.
The evening will also feature: Red Sox 2008 No. 1 Draft Pick Casey Kelly (2008); 2006 Lowell Spinner Jeff Farrell, who pitched five innings in the only no-hitter in Spinners history; and UMass alum and 2005-2006 Spinner Jason Twomley.
Local baseball legends set to attend include: former Spinners manager and Red Sox third base coach Dick Berardino; former Red Sox hitting coach and Major League veteran Walt Hriniak; and long-time Major League pitcher and current Red Sox employee Bob Tewksbury, will be in attendance.
Serving as special guest emcee is WBZ Channel 4 sports anchor and host of “Red Sox This Week,” Dan Roche.
