The BBWAA (Boston Baseball Writers' Association of America) has announced more awards that will be presented at the 70th Annual Awards Dinner on Jan. 8.

Joining Andrew Friedman (Executive of the Year), Joe Maddon (Manager of the Year) and Jonathan Papelbon (Fireman of the Year) are Sean Casey, Jon Lester and Jeff Bailey. Casey truly lived up to his nickname as "The Mayor" while adding a friendly face and quick laugh in the Boston clubhouse this season, and also helped the Sox survive slow starts by both Mike Lowell and David Ortiz last season. Injuries and inactivity conspired to find him a seat on the bench once the Sox traded for Mark Kotsay, but Casey was a shoo-in for the good guy award.

Jon Lester's season speaks for itself and the lack of attention/consideration he received for Cy Young Award voting was shocking after putting together a 16-6 record with a 3.21 ERA over 210 1/3 valuable innings in a breakout season for the Sox.

Jeff Bailey won the International  League MVP Award after tearing up at Triple A for the Pawtucket Red Sox, and is often overlooked in a Sox minor league system chock full of young and shiny prospects -- a consideration that made it that much easier for me to vote him the Minor League Award Winner.

Good Guy Award: Sean Casey

Red Sox Pitcher of the Year: Jon Lester

Red Sox Minor League Award: Jeff Bailey.

The aforementioned awards -- and a host of baseball-related guest appearances -- will be presented at the 70th Awards Dinner on Jan. 8 at the Westin Waterfront Hotel. Tickets are available for $150 each by sending a check to PO Box 7346, Nashua NH, 03060. WEEI Sox play-by-play man Dave O'Brien has also been tapped to emcee the event.
